West Stafford

West Stafford is a small farming community in the Frome Valley, named as Froom-Everard, in Thomas Hardy’s stories. St. Andrew’s Church, rebuilt in 1640, is believed to be the setting for the marriage of Tess and Angel Clare, in Hardy’s ‘Tess of the d’Urbervilles’.

Just outside the village is Lower Lewell Farm, the ‘Talbothays Dairy’, where Angel Clare and Tess met.
